Is STD testing free?
At most partner clinics, yes. Public health programs and sliding-fee scales cover HIV and STD screening for patients without insurance, and most insurance plans cover screening at no cost as preventive care. Ask the clinic before your visit and they will tell you exactly what applies to you.
Do I need an appointment?
No. Every partner clinic accepts walk-ins. Booking online holds a time so you are not waiting, but if you would rather just show up, use Find a clinic, pick the one closest to your zip code and go.
How fast do I get results?
Rapid HIV tests give a result in about 20 minutes while you are still at the clinic. Full STD panels go to a lab and usually come back in one to three days. Results are shared through the clinic's patient portal or a call from the clinic, never by text message.
Is it confidential?
Yes. Partner clinics are covered by HIPAA. Staff never name a test or a result in a phone call, voicemail or text. Our clinic finder only asks for your phone number to send a one-time code and match you to a clinic, and that number is never sold or shared.
Can I start PrEP at a partner clinic?
Yes. Clinics in Downtown Miami, Kendall West, North Miami and Miramar prescribe PrEP as a daily pill or an injection every two months. You need a negative HIV test within seven days of starting, which the clinic does on the spot. With most insurance PrEP and its labs cost $0, and assistance programs exist if you are uninsured.
